Recently, Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, a member of the multinational network of IHH Healthcare, together with the Asian Venous Academy and Dr. Smile Medical Group, signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Academic, Clinical, Management, and Medical Innovation in Venous Diseases in Hong Kong. Centered on phlebology, the three parties will establish a long-term and systematic strategic partnership in academic research, clinical practice, medical education, healthcare management, physician leadership development, and exploration related to artificial intelligence (AI), and will jointly explore collaborative models oriented toward the Asian region.

According to the agreement, based on evidence-based medicine and combined with venous hemodynamic research, the three parties will focus on promoting academic exchange related to venous diseases, sharing clinical experience, conducting joint case discussions, and carrying out physician training and observation programs. Relying on the multidisciplinary clinical and teaching platform of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong, together with the Asian Venous Academy’s experience in professional education and academic organization, and Dr. Smile Medical Group’s systematic accumulation in globally leading concepts and practices in the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins, a cooperative mechanism with continuity and replicability will be gradually established.
Within the framework of the cooperation, the three parties will also jointly focus on issues related to healthcare management and physician leadership development, and will carry out exchanges and research on discipline development, clinical pathway management, multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaboration, as well as the roles and responsibilities of physicians within complex healthcare systems, exploring pathways for the coordinated development of medical professional competence and organizational management capabilities.
At the level of medical innovation, the cooperation will focus on the potential applications of artificial intelligence in medical education, clinical decision support, and healthcare process optimization. Through academic discussions and the sharing of practical experience, the three parties will jointly explore how AI can assist physicians—instead of replacing professional judgment—in understanding disease mechanisms, improving consistency in diagnosis and treatment, and enhancing teaching efficiency.

Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong is a multidisciplinary private teaching hospital located in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island, providing clinical services across more than 30 specialties and subspecialties. As a teaching hospital, Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong maintains clinical teaching and academic collaborations with the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, and has long placed emphasis on medical education, clinical research, healthcare management, and innovative practice. We look forward to promoting continuous improvement in both professional depth and regional collaboration in venous disease care through systematic academic exchange, multidisciplinary clinical cooperation, and medical exploration.”

The Asian Venous Academy is an independent academic platform based in Hong Kong and oriented toward Asia, focusing on professional education, academic research, and cross-regional collaboration in the field of venous diseases. The Academy emphasizes medical professionalism and physician responsibility, and is committed to promoting the long-term development of phlebology through systematic education on emerging medical knowledge, international academic exchange, and discussions related to management and leadership.
Dr. Qiang Zhang, Founding Chairman of the Asian Venous Academy, stated:
“The Asian Venous Academy chose to establish itself in Hong Kong with a focus on Asia in order to connect clinical experience in Asia with international medical standards, fully leveraging Hong Kong’s innovative environment and the innovation resources of mainland China. This strategic cooperation with Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong will promote the systematic development of venous medicine in terms of clinical concepts, medical education, and talent cultivation, and will help build an academic and innovation platform oriented toward Asia and connected globally.”

Dr. Smile Medical Group has long been deeply engaged in the field of venous diseases and has accumulated systematic experience in clinical practice, professional training, and healthcare management. With venous hemodynamics as its core concept, the Group continues to participate in academic research and clinical exploration related to venous diseases, providing professional support and a practical foundation for this tripartite strategic cooperation.
Dr. Xin Du, Chief Medical Officer of Dr. Smile Medical Group and Global CHIVA Program Expert, stated:
“Dr. Smile Medical Group is committed to advancing the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins from experience-based practice toward a structured, replicable, and sustainable professional system. This strategic cooperation in Hong Kong with Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong and the Asian Venous Academy represents an important milestone in bringing this medical philosophy to the global stage, and will further promote the development of venous medicine that integrates scientific rationality with humanistic care through education and collaborative innovation.”

Under the framework of this strategic cooperation, the Global CHIVA Program, as an important methodological direction in venous disease research and medical education, has been included in collaborative discussions. From a hemodynamic perspective, the program focuses on the long-term management of venous diseases and individualized treatment, providing reference pathways for academic research, clinical discussion, and medical education.
The three parties stated that the signing of this strategic cooperation agreement aims to establish a long-term cooperative mechanism centered on venous diseases, integrating academia, clinical practice, healthcare management, physician leadership, and medical innovation. On the basis of steady advancement, the cooperation will gradually expand medical exchange and collaboration oriented toward the Asian region.Academic Collaboration & Partnership
